LaVonne Marie Lindberg passed away at Cherrywood Advanced Living In Andover, Minnesota on January 24, 2018. She was four months shy of her 100th birthday.
LaVonne will be fondly remembered by her daughters Jane (John) Carlson of Prairie City, IA and Eileen (Jim) Miles of Coon Rapids, MN. In addition she is survived by her eight grandchildren Karen, Scott, Michelle, Chad, Troy, Cory, Kendra and Aaron as well as 16 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her two sister-in-laws Winona Peters and Margil Peters and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding LaVonne in death was her husband HR (Lindy) Lindberg in 1970 as well as her most beloved son James (Jimmy) in 1968.
LaVonne was born to Ralph and Ada (Moore) Peters at Bagley, IA on May 26, 1918. Following her in the family were her three treasured brothers Vern, Robert, and Ronald. She was so proud of her brothers and their military service and it was difficult for her to watch them all pass before her. All four of the siblings graduated from Bagley High School - LaVonne in 1935. From there she attended Thompson's Cosmetology School in Des Moines as she had a strong desire to be able to support herself. After her graduation she secured her first job in Stanhope, IA where she met and subsequently married the "Big Swede" and the love of her life Lindy.
The couple made their homes in several small Iowa towns while raising their family, ultimately ending up in Fort Dodge, IA. After the passing of her husband and son LaVonne returned to Iowa Central Community College and ended up working several years for Land O' Lakes. In 1989 her Prairie City family convinced her to move close to them and she bought her little house on Claire Street. She enjoyed daily visits with family and friends and had an active role in helping to raise her great-grandchildren.
As LaVonne's eye sight deteriorated it became necessary for her to be in assisted living. It was time for her to move close to her Minnesota family, where she lived out the last three years of her life. She continued to enjoy her many visits with her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
LaVonne was a member of the Prairie City United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and Chapter AV PEO.
The family will hold a memorial service on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at the Prairie City United Methodist Church, as they celebrate 100 years of her wonderful life. LaVonne's cremains will be interred at North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge, IA at a later date.
Condolences to your family on the loss of your loved one. Wishing you the peace and comfort promised at 2 Corinthians 1:3, 4 during this difficult time of mourning.
