Mary Lou Kane, age 88, a lifelong resident of Prairie City, entered into eternal rest on February 20, 2018. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Prairie City Church of the Brethren at 10:30 a.m.. Burial will follow at Waveland Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday, February 23, 2018 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. Memorials may be directed to the Prairie City Church of the Brethren or the Prairie City Ambulance Fund and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com
The daughter of Donald and Alvirda (Long) McFadden, Mary Lou was born on March 4, 1929. As a young girl she was her father's "right hand" helping with farming with a team of horses and Black Angus cows, calves and one bull named "Herbie." Mary Lou was very fond of horses, especially "Bud and O'le Joe." She graduated from Prairie City High School in 1947. On June 24, 1948, she was untied in marriage to William (Bill) Kane. They worked together farming and raising livestock. Some of Mary Lou's favorite things to do were cooking, baking, making Christmas candy, sewing, anything involving music and was a football and basketball fan.
Those left to honor her memory include her two children, Jackie Kane and Jerry (Marjie) Kane; four grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were husband of 59 years, Bill; her parents; her sister, Dorothy Kain and her brother, Keith McFadden.
