Iona Mae Holmes was born April 6, 1927 at Galesburg, Iowa. She was the second child of Floyd F. and Nellie M. (Farmer) Holmes. She was raised in the Reasnor and Monroe areas and was baptized in the Reasnor Methodist Church. In 1948 she was married to Duane R. Ruckman in Monroe. They lived in Red Rock until 1954 when they moved to Monroe. After divorcing, Iona was employed by the Maytag Company where she retired after 22 years of service. Iona was a member of Local 997 and a member and past officer of Women of the Moose Lodge in Newton.

Iona was a loving mom, grandma, great grandma and great-great grandma. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and especially enjoyed vacationing with her family at the Cordova Park Cabins at Lake Red Rock. She was a wonderful cook and made the best homemade noodles in the world. She loved barbequing with her family, dancing, playing cards and mushroom hunting.

Iona was preceded in death by her parents, infant son, Terry Duane, infant grandson, Zaccheus Eggert, sister, Clara Cowden, brother, Wendell Holmes and two nephews, Eddie Buckingham and David Holmes. She is survived by her two daughters, Sandra Mendenhall and Susan (Terry) Eggert both of Colfax, four granddaughters, three grandsons, eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren as well as two sisters, Kathryn Korte of Newton and Doris (Pete) DeMoss of Pleasantville. She will be missed so very much - 'til we meet again mommy.
