Eloise Gloyd Hensler

September 26, 1917 - April 30, 2012

Obituary

Obituary
Eloise Gloyd Hensler, the oldest daughter of Ralph and Letha Hetherington Gloyd, was born September 26, 1917. She was very active in plays and musicals in high school. She received the prestigious '4-square girl' award and was salutatorian of her class. Eloise married George Hensler on September 17, 1939. Eloise was a beautician and owned her salon. She and George also owned a D/X oil station in Des Moines. They enjoyed yearly fall fishing trips and took many other trips throughout the country.

Eloise's best friend and sister, Phyllis lived together for more than 30 years. They were a wonderful compliment to each other and it was rare to see one without the other. Eloise was always looking out for her little sister. If everyone had a sister like Eloise, the world would be a much, much better place.

Eloise and George enjoyed their four nephews R.D. and Chuck Blankenship (both deceased) and Robert (CO) and Hal (CA) Hensler and all their activities. Eloise had a very special relationship with her great-niece Tiffany who was like a daughter to her. She was very close to Tiffany's family, her husband Jaret and their boys Braeden and Deacon. She loved watching the boys in everything they did and their weekly visits to the 'farm.'

People naturally gravitated to Eloise with her warm personality, easy laugh, and amazing sense of style. She was close with many people, especially, Paul (deceased), Pat, Larry, Mary, Sharon, Roberta, Lila and the women of P.E.O, Woman's Club, Bridge Club and Wed. Coffee Group.

Her immense generosity didn't stop with her passing. Eloise's last gift was the donation of her body to DMU.

A quote found among Eloise's papers sums her up perfectly, 'The heart that gives gathers.' We are all better because we loved her and her, us.

A Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 4, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Monroe United Methodist Church. The family will greet friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Memorials may be directed to the Monroe United Methodist Church or the Monroe Rec Park and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

Our sympathy goes out to Eloise's family and friends. We served the Monroe United Methodist Church from 2001 - 2007 and loved having Phyllis and Eloise as church members and friends. We know Eloise is in a better place and no longer suffering. We will meet again in a much better place.
