Name: Dorothy Irene Hewitt Dates: Birth date: March 09, 1923 Death date: January 24, 2010 Obituary: Dorothy Hewitt, age 86 of Monroe, died Sunday, January 24, 2010, at her home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Monroe United Methodist Church, with burial following at Silent City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the church. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Monroe Ambulance Fund and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The daughter of Jacob and Ivy Irene (Wood) Dingeman, Dorothy was born on March 9, 1923 in Monroe, Iowa. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1941 and attended William Penn College for one year. On December 1, 1945, she was united in marriage to Donald Hewitt in Kansas City, Missouri. Dorothy was a life time member of the Monroe United Methodist Church with many years teaching Sunday School and Bible School. She worked at Maytag for many years before starting a business with her husband, Don. Her pride and joy was her kids and grandkids. Lifetime hobbies include selling Avon at flea markets, enjoying wildlife while camping, and searching for mushrooms. At home she worked search-a-word and jigsaw puzzles with a big box of chocolate by her side. Those left to honor her memory are her children, Steve (Linda) Hewitt and Donita (Al) Breckenridge both of Monroe; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, Scott (JoAnna) Hewitt (Maggie), Cindy (Kirk) Stowers, Danny (Gina) Hewitt (Dakota, Chris, Kayla, Zach), Robert (Meagan) Breckenridge (Brayden), and James Breckenridge; sister, Crystal (Herbert) Dykstra of Newton. Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents, husband, Donald in 1986, a son, Donald “Rusty” Hewitt in 1977, and two sisters, Donna Lee and Phyllis Machin.
