Name: Margaret H. Guy Dates: Birth date: May 03, 1920 Death date: February 24, 2010 Obituary: Margaret H. Guy, age 89 of Colfax entered into her heavenly kingdom on Wednesday, February 25, 2010 at the Urbandale Health Care Center surrounded by her loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax of which she was a lifetime member. There will be a family visitation held on Friday, February 26, 2010 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the church. There will be a Rosary prayed at 6 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Burial will take place at McKeever Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com. Margaret was born on May 3, 1920, in Colfax to George W. and Margaret (Kennedy) Gibson. She was the twelfth child of thirteen. She spent her entire life in the Colfax area, attending Poweshiek Township #8 through 8th grade and then graduated from Colfax High School in 1937. She loved attending the annual Colfax/ Colfax – Mingo Alumni banquets. She was employed at Hahn & Stouffer Insurance Office, and then in 1982, she retired from Altoona Hy-Vee Food Store with 20 years of service as a bookkeeper. Margaret married Melvin William Guy on November 19, 1941, to this loving union, three children were born, George W, Mark W, and Monica J. She so loved her faith and a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She served on the Parish Council, Altar & Rosary Society, Lector, Eucharist Minister, CCD teacher; she was interested in school and community affairs. She was president of the Colfax Alumni Association 1966, past member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Colfax Poinsettia Club and charter member of her much loved canasta club Red Hat Society of Colfax and her Monday morning coffee at the Robson’s. Those left to honor her memory are her children, Mark Guy of Mitchellville and Monica (Terry) Hysell of Urbandale; two grandchildren, Shannon (Laura) Guy-Crosslin of Ravena, New York and Libby (Chris) Carlton of Grimes, Iowa, a great niece/grand daughter, Samantha (Bill ) Webb of Mitchellville, three great grandchildren, Piper Guy-Crosslin, Ellie and Caleb Carlton, a sister, Frieda Teed of Colfax, a sister in law, Marion Gibson of Norwalk as well as many nieces and nephews, she was so very fond of and who will greatly miss her. Preceding her in death were her parents, an infant son, her loving husband Melvin in 1993, her special and only grandson, Scott in 2001; brothers, Harry, George, William, and Francis, sisters, Vera, Eva, and Mary and four infant brothers and sisters.
