The son of Robert and Marilyn McNamara (Emerson), Charles was born on January 30, 1968, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He grew up in Mingo and graduated high school with the first class of Colfax-Mingo. Early on the name Charles turned into the nickname Charly, and he was always known that way. Charly was an incredible guy who would help you in any way he could. His heart spoke for itself in the many ways he gave himself to others. He spent time working at the Mingo Meat Locker, over the years he became a skilled butcher. Charly took pride in his work and skill at the locker.
In his free time Charly worked hard in his yard; he would keep the lawn tidy and care for his canna lilies. Mushroom hunting was always a thrill. Sacks of morels would come home with him, and the next few days would be spent passing them out to friends and family. You could always ask Charly for morels, but he'd never tell you where he found so many. Charly spent his entire life in Mingo. Over the years he developed a number of special relationships. You could often find him riding his electric bike around town visiting with people. There was a good chance that Charly knew who you were if you lived in the community during his lifetime. He was a Mingo man, through and through.
Those left to honor Charly's memory include his beloved dog, Sammie; siblings, Marcia (Jesse) Alexander, Monica McNamara, and Holly (Tim); as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding Charly in death were his parents, Robert and Marilyn McNamara (Emerson); his siblings, Steven McNamara, Douglas McNamara, and Daniel McNamara; as well as his grandparents, Ruby and Leonard Emerson.
