Obituary

Douglas Laverne Van Dyke, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Mingo, Iowa, on May 16, 2026, at the age of 57. Born on November 4, 1968, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Doug graduated from Colfax-Mingo High School in 1987. He was a proud member of his community and served on the Colfax-Mingo School Board from 2017 to 2021.

Doug married the love of his life, Cari Cunningham, on December 30, 1999, and together they built a family filled with love and laughter. He is survived by his devoted wife, Cari, and their three children: Jaden (Maggie) Van Dyke, Reegan Van Dyke, and Morgan Van Dyke. He will also be missed by his mother, Bonnie McMillan, and his siblings, Dan (Teresa) Hixson, Monte (Kelly) Wilson, and Scott Wilson. Doug was preceded in death by his sister, Joleen Wilson, and his beloved grandparents, John and Geraldine Hixson.

Known for his heart of gold, Doug was the person everyone turned to for help; he could fix anything and was always willing to lend a hand. A true social butterfly, he found joy in mowing the yard, sitting by the fire, and passionately cheering on the Hawkeyes—often yelling at the TV during games. Doug's larger-than-life personality and unwavering kindness will be cherished by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held on May 22, 2026, at 10:30 a.m at the First Baptist Church in Colfax. A visitation will take place on May 21, 2026, at 5:00 p.m - 8:00 pm also at the church, allowing family and friends to gather in celebration of Doug's life. As we come together to honor his memory, let us remember the joy he brought to our lives and the lasting impact he made on everyone he encountered. The family request that you wear your favorite Iowa Hawkeye or Colfax-Mingo gear.

Donations may be made to the Colfax-Mingo Scholarship Fund in Doug's honor, ensuring that his legacy of community service continues. Doug will forever remain in our hearts, reminding us to embrace life with passion and kindness. Condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com
