Engeline M. Jarnagin, age 100 of Prairie City, passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at Altoona Nursing and Rehab. Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 3, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City. There will be no visitation. A general memorial has been established and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com. The daughter of Elmer and Julia (DeBruyn) Birkenholtz, Engeline was born on September 10, 1915, in Jasper County, Iowa. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1936. On December 24, 1936, she was united in marriage to Hugh Jarnagin. She was a member of the Prairie City Christian Church. In her free time Engeline enjoyed scrapbooking, baking cookies and angel food cakes, gardening and watching Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right. She was employed as a secretary at the Prairie City Locker Plant for several years and was head manager of the laundry department for 14 years at Clearview Manor where also in her younger years she enjoyed visiting and caring for residents. Those left to honor her memory include two grandchildren; Nikki (Steve) Watson of Minnetonka, Minnesota and Jon Jarnagin of St Cloud, Minnesota; two great grandchildren, Jaymes and Audymn Jarnagin along with several nephews, nieces and good friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, Hugh, and son, Phil Jarnagin as well as her siblings.
