Gertrude Margaret Lourens, age 101 of Prairie City, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at Mill Pond in Ankeny. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Reformed Church in Prairie City. Burial will take place at Waveland Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday, March 18, 2016, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. Memorials may be directed to the First Reformed Church and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com The daughter of Gysbert and Hilda Van Dusseldorp, Gertrude was born on November 22, 1914 in Prairie City. She was educated in the rural schools and graduated from Prairie City High School in 1932. On February 25, 1937, she married Ben Lourens in Monroe. They farmed a number of years in the Prairie City and Runnells areas before moving into Prairie City in 1984. Gertrude made her profession of faith at a young age at the First Reformed Church in Prairie City, and was a member ever since. Those left to honor her memory include her two sons, Larry and his wife Joyce and Les and his wife Ruth both of Altoona; grandchildren, Doug and his wife Diane of Urbandale, Kevin of Washington D.C., Lisa and her husband Ryan Reichenbacker of Ankeny, Jennifer of Urbandale, and Jon and his wife Raina of Maine; nine great grandchildren, Rob, John and Anna Lourens, Ben, Sam, Tom and Joe Reichenbacker, Jonas and Emily Lourens and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Ben in 2003, a son, Ronald in 1971 and a brother, Leo in 2006.
