James Keith West, age 91 of Runnells, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 6, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. Burial with military rites will take place at Lowman Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the James West Memorial Fund and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com. The son of Cordis R. and Agnes M. (Burnett) West, James was born on May 30, 1923, in Runnells. On March 7, 1945 he was united in marriage to Sarah Louis Grimes in Rising Sun. James proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. He worked as a machinist at Firestone in Des Moines, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, rock collection, camping, fishing and hunting mushrooms. Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Sharon K. Yazel of Mitchellville, Sandra L. Curry of Runnells, Marcia D. Lane of Runnells, and Bonnie L. Jones of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Vermelle Miller of Runnells and two brothers, Lewis West of California and Kenneth West of Florida. Preceding him in death was his parents, wife in 2011, a son Jimmie Dean; three brothers, and five sisters.
