John Mervyn Kelley, age 73 of Prairie City, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 3, 2018. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Prairie City United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's name to Great Western Bank in Prairie City. The son of, Martha and Roy Kelley, John was born on April 6, 1945, in Des Moines. He was united in marriage to Deloris Oxford in June of 1971. He worked as a self-employed painting contractor for more than 50 years. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Deloris; daughter, Tonia (Glen) Gillespie; two sons, Anthony (Lynn) Kelley and Jeff (Barb) Kelley; four grandchildren, Glenn II and Chelbie Gillespie and Zachary and Colin Kelley; a great grandchild, Jensen Gillespie; two sisters, Ann and Marge; and a brother, Bill. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Nora and a brother, Joe.
