The daughter of John and Helen (Kordick) Burg, Mary was born in Bridgewater, Iowa, on May 11, 1933. Mary met her future husband Joe at a church dance where Joe told his friends, "I'm going to marry that girl!" He was true to his word and the two later married on June 7, 1958. The couple began their lives on the family farm in Mitchellville, IA where they raised their three children. All the while, Mary and Joe placed their trust in God and were active in the church. Mary also worked outside of the home at Mercy Hospital in the accounting department until her retirement in 1994.While Mary loved being a mother, she was absolutely thrilled with being a grandmother. Several grand and later, great grandchildren came into her life.

In their later years, Mary and Joe left the farm in Mitchellville to move to Altoona. This allowed them more time to enjoy time with family, friends and their neighbors. As Joe's health began to decline, Mary took on the role as a caregiver. She took on this role with love as well as courage and placed his needs above her own. After Joe's passing, she continued to share her love with family and friends, still putting the needs of others before her own. There were always the special acts of kindness for her grandkids. She never forgot a birthday and always made sure every grandkid received a homemade loaf of her famous lemon bread for Christmas.

When Mary's health began to decline, she moved to Bishop Drumm in Johnson, IA. Her room was surrounded with pictures of her family. The staff there was wonderful to her. They often said that when you went into Mary's room, you were going to hear about her family. Mary definitely made an impression on the caregivers and Hospice staff that cared for her. When Mary passed, there was a steady stream of caregivers from Bishop Drumm and Hospice who offered their love and prayers. It showed that she was loved by all.

Mary will always be remembered for her kindness and gentle ways. She had a wonderful laugh, always had a smile and would love to hear some good gossip. She lived a wonderful life.

Those left to honor her memory are her children; Julie (Mike) Tigges, of Clive, Iowa, Dan (Cindy) Hart, of Lacona, Iowa, and Pat (Ruth) Hart of Mitchellville, Iowa, grandchildren; Lindsey (Cory) Brown, Abby Tigges, Kelsey (Kyle) Bagby, Katie (Trevor) Swanson, Karie (Aaron) Payette, John Hart, Emily (Steven) Cleary, Grace (James Heckathorn) Hart, and Molly Hart, great grandchildren; Ryder, Tegan, Noah, Emma, Nellie, and Triss, and a brother-in-law; Jim Graham.

Preceding Mary in death are her husband; Joseph Hart, her parents; Helen and John Burg, her sister; Bertha (Robert) Fagan, and her in-laws; Rose Graham, and Don (Madelyn) Bower.
