Melvin Earl McReynolds, age 78 of Prairie City, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2020 in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the Prairie City Church of The Brethren. Burial will follow at Waveland Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. The family has requested casual attire for the service. Memorials may be directed to the family and condolences may be left at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com The son of Earl and Cleo (Waters) McReynolds, Mel was born on March 23, 1942 in Prairie City. He attended school in Prairie City. On November 21, 1962 he was united in marriage to Linda Hinckley. She passed away in 1993. He later married Darlene Basquin on June 15, 2013. Mel worked at Mel's DX, Star Oil, the COOP and Clarklift until his retirement. He served on the Prairie City Fire Department, was a member of the PC Odd Fellows, Jaycee's and was an instructor for Hunter's Education. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, family, gardening and chocolate ice cream. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Darlene; two daughters, Melissa (Scott) Eilander and Marla (Randy) Moore; two granddaughters, Jess (Jared) Gilbert and Olivia Lippman; two great grandchildren, Lili and Jack Gilbert; four step children, Beth (Dan) Williams, Pam (Dan) Streeter, Rich Price and Chris Goldermann; many step grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother, Marvin (Marlene) McReynolds and Betty (Ray) Williams. Preceding Mel in death were his parents, his first wife, Linda; two brothers, Loren Dale and Allen and a sister, Zelda Ann.
