The daughter of Harrison and Jenny (Fletcher) McKee, Pat was born on February 25, 1935 in Massena, Iowa. As the youngest of 5 siblings, Pat grew up with her nieces and nephews as companion's. After her graduation from Massena High School in 1953, she and her classmates remained lifelong friends. Often planning trips and get togethers back in Massena in retirement.
Pat attended Dana College and while studying education, she met Norman Madsen. They married on August 12, 1956 in Massena. Both started their teaching careers at Modale, Iowa in the fall of 1956. In June of 1957 the opportunity came for them to move to Monroe where Pat taught 3rd grade in the newly opened elementary school. As their children were born Pat elected to take some time off from teaching to be with her growing family. She returned to teaching at the lower elementary school level full-time in 1973 and continued educating several generations of community members until her retirement in 1996.
Family was very important to Pat. Helping Norm by chaperoning girls basketball and track teams, cooking meals for those working track meets and spending numerous hours at the various extra-curricular activities of their children and then their grandchildren. Numerous trips to see Jeff, Jon and their families in Tennessee and Colorado as well as her grandchildren, nieces and nephews here in Iowa. Pat's favorite times were when all the family could be together wherever the setting may be.
Pat enjoyed her involvement with PEO, several bridge clubs, women's golf league, her church AFT group and of course the many friendships developed after 68 years of living in Monroe.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband of 69 years, Norm; her children, Jeff (Phyllis) Madsen; Kristin Fulton; Jon (Nicole Nagel) Madsen; Grandchildren Brandan (Dana Hill) Neff; Andrew Neff; Jenna (Christian) Butner; Lily Madsen and great-grandchildren Audrey Hill and Lucas Butner; sister-in-law Kathleen (Kate) McKee as well as her cherished nieces and nephews and families. Pat was preceded in death by her parents Harrison and Jenny McKee; brothers Rex (Iada) McKee; Harrison McKee, Jr.; sisters Veronica (Otis) Lary; Lola (Dean) Antisdel and several nieces and nephews.
