Raymond Dean Koon, age 93, of Urbandale, Iowa, passed away on April 29, 2023 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. A funeral for Raymond will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Following the funeral, burial will be held at McKeever Cemetery. In honor of Ray's service to our country, military rites will be held at the cemetery. Memorials may be made out to a charity or cause of your choice. The son of Norval and Mildred (Taylor) Koon, Raymond was born in Jasper County, Iowa on March 5, 1930. Raymond graduated from Colfax High School in 1948. Following high school, Raymond faithfully served our country for four years as a sergeant in the US Army during the Korean War. He came home with a Purple Heart. Upon returning home he met Mary Williams, and they were married on October 10, 1952. Their marriage was filled with memories and lasted a full 70 years. Raymond spent his career working for the Iowa Power Company, first as a lineman and then later as a supervisor. Raymond always enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and he was a longtime member of the VFW. It turns out he was pretty good at both bowling and playing cards. Upon retiring, Raymond decided he would pick up golf, and he ended up being pretty good at that too. He managed to hit a hole in one four times during his time golfing.

Those left to honor Raymond's memory are his wife of 70 years; Mary (Williams) Koon, son; Doug, daughter; Nancy, two grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.

Preceding Raymond in death were his parents, Norval and Mildred (Taylor) Williams.
