A celebration of life for Bob will be held on Tuesday, October 13, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Mitchellville Community Center, 120 2nd St NE, Mitchellville, IA 50169.

Robert Kenyon "Bob" Underwood Jr., age 83, of Mitchellville, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026. If you wish to send a memorial or card, please address it to, "Attn: Bob Underwood, Coburn Funeral Home, Colfax, Iowa 50054."

The son of Robert and Ruth (Freed) Underwood, Bob was born on March 31, 1942, in Dixon, Illinois. His family later moved to Colfax, where he attended Colfax Schools. He went on to graduate from Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri. After the academy Bob enlisted in the Army National Guard. He was united in marriage to Virginia Hanke of Mitchellville, together they raised two children. He worked for many years at the Monroe Company as a welder and supervisor in the metal department. After spending time at Virginia's family dairy farm, Bob decided to try his hand with dairy cows, often coming home from work to milk.

In his free time Bob enjoyed reading magazines about old cars and guns, attending the races in Knoxville, tinkering with engines, and gunsmithing. He spent countless hours on the phone buying, selling, and trading old jewelry with friends he made. In earlier years, he made memories with Virginia dancing together at the Val Air Ballroom. Bob held a soft spot for his grandchildren and took pride in watching them grow.

Those left to honor Bob's memory include his wife, Virginia Underwood; two children, Mike (Shannon) Underwood and Christy Underwood; grandchildren, Sailor, Delaney, Brett, Carley, and Bree; one great grandchild due in May of 2026, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Bob in death were his parents, Robert and Ruth Underwood, as well as two brothers, Tom and Steve Underwood.
