Obituary

Our loving Mother, Nana, sister, and aunt, Shirley Ann Tucker, age 96, of Colfax, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 4, 2026. Per Shirley's wishes, no services will be held. Memorials may be made out to her family with checks payable to Sherri Jo Strasko. Condolences and memorials may be mailed to Coburn Funeral Home, 24 W Howard St, Colfax, IA 50054.

The daughter of Milo "Shibe" and Gladys (Wiggins) Lockridge, Shirley was born at home in North English, Iowa. Her dad was drafted into World War II when Shirley and Helen Marie were growing up, and she was happy to welcome her little sister, Pam, after her dad's return home. After high school she attended AIB and worked as a secretary for Governor Robert Blue. She met Joe C. Tucker at AIB, and they were married in 1949. She worked as a secretary at Maytag in Newton, Iowa, and later at Parson's College in Fairfield, Iowa, while taking amazing care of her family at home.

A proud Iowa Hawkeye fan, Shirley had a passion for life that shone through in everything she did. She was an avid knitter and made slippers for everyone in her family, as well as for many friends.

Shirley and Joe lived in Fairfield, Iowa, for many years, and then his job provided them with the opportunity to move several times before returning to Iowa in 1989. They established homes in California, Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois. Their final move brought them to Colfax to be around family. They made lifelong friends everywhere they lived. Shirley spent many hours on the golf course with her friends and with Joe. She also loved to bowl. She and her sister, Helen Marie, enjoyed many fun times bowling in the ladies league in Colfax.

Family was everything to Shirley. She dedicated herself to being a caretaker, creating wonderful memories with her kids growing up, and shopping with her grandkids each summer. She didn't miss a chance to tap dance with her sister, Helen Marie, or go to the casino with both sisters for some time on the slot machines. She remembered everyone's birthday or special event with a greeting card or a special text message.

Shirley also enjoyed playing in a couple's monthly bridge league where everyone would bring a dish to share. Her baking and cooking were something everyone looked forward to at their monthly bridge league, as well as family gatherings. She and Joe spent many evenings passing the time with a game of Yahtzee.

Shirley lived a bright, active life, dedicating herself to taking care of those who were closest to her and making countless memories along the way. She truly was the kindest soul we have ever known. Her generosity, love, and compassion were shown to everyone in her family each and every day of her life. She had the gift of caring for others and never expected anything in return. This is a legacy her family will carry in their hearts forever. We were truly blessed.

Those left to remember Shirley include her daughter, Sherri Jo Strasko; grandkids, Bart (Seth) Buch-Eberle, Mandi Jo Bennett, Brett Buch (Chere McLaughlin), Sueann (Sarek) Snow Fly, and Terrence Eagle Feather; great grandchildren, KC McLaughlin, Owen (Belle) Bennett, Evan Bennett, Perrin Snow Fly, and Leo Buch-Eberle; two great great grandchildren, several special nieces and nephews; and a sister Pam (Terry) Fox.
