Steven Lowell Kono, age 64 of Grimes passed away on Friday, April 19, 2019, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the A Heinz 57 Pet Rescue and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com The son of Lowell Orville and Joann Ileane (Howell) Kono, Steven was born on September 18, 1954 in Newton, Iowa. On November 30, 1996 he was united in marriage to Sheila Shaw at the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax. Steve loved dogs and also enjoyed Nascar Racing, hunting mushrooms, fishing and driving around town in his corvettes. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Sheila; children, Draper Kono, Paris (Marco) Ches, Hannah (Travis Bennett) Kono, Kristen (Joe) Radford, and Casey (Jilaine) Freeman and seven grandchildren with one on the way soon. Also surviving is his mother, Joann Carter; siblings, Brick (Terrie) Kono, Wendy (Doug) Patterson Susanna Kono and Jason (Kim) Kono as well as several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his father, Lowell; step father, Richard Carter; a brother, Jared Kono and his grandparents.
