Samantha Kay (Kissel) Shilling, age 37 of Galesburg passed away on June 8, 2020. A private family memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Colfax. Memorials may be directed to the family and condolences may be left at coburnfuneralhomes.com
The daughter of Dave and Sandra (Reints) Kissel, Samantha was born on January 1, 1983 in Des Moines. She graduated from Southeast Polk High School and studied sociology at William Penn in Oskaloosa. On March 26, 2016, she was united in marriage to Jason Shilling in Knoxville. Samantha had a knack for brutal honesty and had a fierce sense of humor. If you needed to talk to someone who would shake you to the core, and then make you laugh about it, you talked to Samantha. Samantha loved to see others happy, she loved to have fun. She had an unforgettable laugh and used it often. Samantha could contemplate for hours over the glories of heaven and the grace of Jesus. She held fast to her faith in troubled times and gave so much hope to others in their own times of struggle. She undoubtedly is in the arms of her savior and looking upon those she loves. Samantha loved her children with all of her heart. She knew what a special gift her children were to this world, and she cherished them.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Jason; three children, Abygail, Michael, and Hannah; her father, David Kissel; and her siblings, Stephanie Kissel, MJ Kissel, Annette Kissel, Laura Eastgate, Glen Kissel, Heather Kissel and April Keller. Preceding her in death was her mother, Sandra and a brother, Michael Kissel.
Our deepest condolences. Our youngest Sister. Rest in Peace, Sammy. In Our mind and hearts forevermore.
I knew Samantha during high school. We reconnected in 2014. Samantha struggled but she was a good person. It’s very sad to hear that her babies will not have her in their lives every day. I wish things could’ve been different for you. I hope you have found peace.
